Feminism, Food, and the American Table
This is a chronology I began compiling (using Knightlab’s timeline tool) to show a range of feminist attitudes toward kitchens and cooking in 20th century America. WordPress-hosted sites do not permit iframes, so I am unable to embed the timeline as I wished to do, but clicking through should allow you to browse a few examples of cookbooks, manifestos, artworks, and novels set in chronological order. It’s far from a comprehensive collection, but is intended to show the variety and complexity of women’s relationships to domestic labor as their expectations for work and family changed during this decade.
